Missa Solemnis

Missa Solemnis

01-02-1995 Rec.: February 1966 Herbert von Karajan

Written over the span of four years, in those four years he completed six other works. ‘The Agnus Dei represents an attempt to come to terms with his (Beethoven’s) failings as a human being. In this sense the Missa Soemnis was a personal triumph for Beethoven, and one which had the liberating effect of enabling him to tackle the musical and human problems of the Ninth Symphony and the late quartets which lay ahead.’ (William Drabkin)
